🇳🇴 Who's Leading Disability Inclusion in Norway
This is one entry in InkludX's Inclusion Atlas — a country-by-country, segment-by-segment scan of the organizations across Europe genuinely recognized for their disability-inclusion employment work: an award won, a scaled program, or a policy fingerprint behind the claim, not just a mention of "inclusion" on a website. Norway is one of InkludX's 5 launch markets.
Inclusive employers
- Strawberry — Hotel chain. Won the 2024 Ringer i Vannet prize from Arbeid & Inkludering in NHO, which called it a role model in building an inclusive workplace. Source.
- REMA 1000 — National grocery chain. Won the 2023 Ringer i Vannet prize; NHO described it as a guiding star in giving people outside working life a real chance in the job market. Source.
- Bakehuset — Bakery group. Its Heba department won the 2025 Ringer i Vannet prize for its long-term collaboration with Bragd Kompetanse and for using the Ringer i Vannet method as an integrated part of its recruitment. Source.
Public agencies & welfare bodies
- Inkluderende arbeidsliv (IA) — Norway's inclusive working life agreement between the social partners. The IA arrangement was launched as a countermeasure when sickness absence rose in the 1990s, and remains the framework for cooperation between employers and unions on inclusion. Source.
- Traineeprogrammet i staten — State-sector trainee scheme for people with disabilities and/or CV gaps who have higher education. Positions can be temporary for up to 2 years with a one-year extension, include a mentor and extra training, and can be converted to permanent posts without advertising once the programme is completed. NGOs & advocacy orgs
- FFO — Funksjonshemmedes Fellesorganisasjon — Umbrella federation of Norway's disability organizations. Its “Funksjonsansatte” campaign (August 2025) highlighted that over 100,000 people with disabilities are involuntarily outside working life. Source.
- Norges Handikapforbund — One of Norway's largest disability rights organizations. In a 2007 consultation response on ratifying the UN CRPD, it concentrated on accessibility and universal-design requirements in Norwegian law. Source.
Certification & standards bodies
- Likestilt arbeidsliv — Certification scheme for private and public organisations working systematically on equality, inclusion and diversity. Covers grounds including disability; KUN is one of its accredited certifiers. Source.
No disability-specific certification body was found — Likestilt arbeidsliv is broad equality/diversity-focused rather than disability-only.
Social enterprises & placement providers
- Fretex Jobb og Oppfølging — Work-inclusion company of Fretex, run in line with the Salvation Army's values. Runs the AFT (work-preparatory training) and VTA (permanent adapted work) schemes to help people get and keep work, as a non-profit company in the sheltered sector. Source.
- Montar AS — Work-integration company owned by Målselv municipality. Offers meaningful, individually adapted work for people who have fallen outside the ordinary labour market. Source.
- InClue AS — Recruitment and competency house. Focused on getting people with disabilities hired into ordinary roles; hosts information on Norway's Inkluderingskonferansen. Source.
Awards, media & recognition programs
- Ringer i Vannet-prisen — NHO's annual inclusion prize for companies that excel at inclusion. Ringer i Vannet itself is a research-based recruitment strategy developed by Arbeid & Inkludering and NHO that starts from the employer's labour needs, with close follow-up and a short, cost-free trial period without employer liability. Source.
- Årets Lionheart-prisen — Annual prize from Sammen for livet, launched in 2022, for companies that excel at work inclusion. Scandic Norge won in 2023 for hiring formerly convicted people — an inclusion prize, but not disability-specific. Source.
HR-tech & inclusive-hiring platforms
- Klara — AI-based job-matching tool from Arbeid & Inkludering (NHO). Integrated with NAV's job portal Arbeidsplassen.no in February 2025, letting advisors query the job market conversationally and identify roles whose tasks can be adjusted or split. Source.
No standout Norway-specific disability-hiring startup surfaced — Klara is an industry-association tool, not a commercial platform.
