Scope is one of Britain's largest disability charities. A few years ago it asked itself an honest question: are we actually a good employer for disabled people? The answer was uncomfortable. Job descriptions had unnecessary requirements. Interview formats assumed everyone communicates the same way. Hiring managers carried the same biases they'd spent years campaigning against. Scope redesigned their recruitment from scratch, stripped out artificial barriers, retrained interviewers, and launched Work With Me with Virgin Media — a public campaign asking employers to appoint a senior leader accountable for disability inclusion.

The answer, built over seven decades, is a cluster of real businesses — IT, printing, catering, a café-bookshop in Schwabing — where more than 2,500 people now work, most with severe physical disabilities. They didn't design an inclusion programme. They designed jobs.
